BJP Converted Rs. 5,000 Crore Black Money into Bitcoin, Alleges Congress

Every 5 years, equally Bharat approaches the parliamentary elections, leading political parties engage in blame games to mobilize voters. Corruption is a big problem in India and scams thus make up huge portion of political campaign speeches.

Now, with less than a year left to the Lok Sabha polls of 2019, the two leading parties – BJP and Congress – accept already engaged in swinging blames at each other. The latest of these instances is about round shots fired by Congress, claiming that members of BJP, the ruling party in Gujarat, have been engaged in a bitcoin scam involving thousands of crores of rupees.

Congress' spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil has alleged that BJP party members in Gujarat have converted black money into bitcoin by means of hawala transactions. While the general speculation is that black money hoarders in Gujarat have traded most Rs. 5,000 crore in bitcoin, some claims go as loftier as Rs. 88,000 crore ($12.8 billion).

The spokesperson has demanded the Supreme Court intervene and conduct an investigation into the allegations. He also alleged that the authorities's move to demonetize college currency notes in 2016 was an attempt by the BJP to encompass up the black money endemic and accumulated by the affiliates of BJP. He added that the state's police is colluding with BJP to help them cover up illegal transactions.

To counter the claims by Congress, BJP chosen these allegations "laughable" and "dirty tricks". BJP spokesperson Anil Baluni said that past blaming the country's police, Congress is conspiring to assist someone illegally.

Meanwhile, the legal status of digital currencies in the country is notwithstanding under cloud with the Reserve Bank of India ordering banks to not facilitate whatsoever transaction related to cryptocurrencies. While the Supreme Court is set to listen to pleas past a group of crypto-enthusiasts on July 21, it has sided with the RBI on the current ban which came into force today.
